LA prosecutors have filed an extradition request for Harvey Weinstein.

If it’s approved, it would pave the way for the convicted rapist to be put on trial again for five counts of sexual assault,

Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office said DA Jackie Lacey filed a request for temporary custody on July 20.

A hearing date is expected to be set to consider the request.

He received 20 years for a criminal sexual act in the first degree, and three years for rape in the third degree; these sentences will run consecutively and Weinstein will have to register as a sex offender when he is released.

In New York, he was acquitted of first-degree rape and predatory sexual assault – charges that would have resulted in a life sentence if he were found guilty.

Most recently, Ashley Judd won an appeal to pursue a sexual assault case against the disgraced producer, after she attempted to sue him in 2018, with her case being dismissed.

An appeals court ruled this week that Judd can now pursue her sexual harassment case against Weinstein.

Judd, 52, previously accused Weinstein of sexual harassment, claiming that he had defamed her in 1998 by threatening to sabotage her career after she rejected his alleged advances. Weinstein denied the allegations.

Judge Mary H. Murguia stated: ‘[Their] relationship consisted of an inherent power imbalance wherein Weinstein was uniquely situated to exercise coercion or leverage over Judd by virtue of his professional position and influence as a top producer in Hollywood.’
