Harry Styles is clearly a human we can all learn a great deal from as he was dubbed the ‘consent king’ by a model who starred in his rather sexual Watermelon Sugar music video.
The clip dropped on Monday and featured the former One Direction star and a bunch of models getting to all kinds of grips with slices of watermelon as they frolicked on the beach.
While the clip was ‘dedicated to touching’, seeing as it’s something we’re not allowed to do right now, and the song itself is rumoured to be about oral sex, so the music video really took things up to 11.
Like, we don’t know whether it’s because we’ve all been in isolation for too long or what, but that thing was sexy.
So while we’re getting all sorts of hot under the collar watching Hazza chow down on a piece of fruit, it’s oh-so-refreshing to hear some insight into the beind-the-scenes of the shoot, with one model, Ephrata, saying Harry was all for asking for consent to touch his co-stars.
Speaking with fellow model Aalany McMahan, who was also in the video, on Instagram Live, the pair shared their positive experience on set.
Ephrata said: ‘The people were telling him to touch my hair and play with it and he was like, “Wait, wait, wait, pause – can I even touch your hair? Is that even okay?”
‘And I was like, “Yeah, that’s so nice. That was really sweet.”’
Aalany added Harry was ‘very huge on the consent’, as Ephrata called him ‘consent king!’
Oh, be still our beating hearts.
In one scene, Ephrata was also encouraged to kiss Harry on the cheek (ergh, we know what that’s like, amiright) but she, too, was all about the consent, proving permission is a two-way street. Or a 40-way street, according to the music video.
She said: ‘They told me to kiss him, and I felt like I had to ask, too. I was like, “Are you sure?” and he was like, “Yes, go ahead!”’
Again, oh, we totally know what it’s like when Harry says you can kiss him.
She added: ‘That’s why it was so fun because everybody was so like comfortable.’
While Aalany said: ‘It was just natural.’
According to Ephrata: ‘Nothing felt like forced, people weren’t stuck up on set.’
This week 26-year-old Harry blessed us with a retro clip of him frolicking on a beach with a bunch of bikini-clad beauties in Malibu, filmed in January before lockdown meant we could no longer touch anyone outside our household.
Harry released the banger back in November and we’re just grateful to have the video after what felt like an age of teasers, hints and even video countdowns.
Seeing as the clip has already racked up more than 14million views on YouTube, we’re all picking up what Harry is putting down.
But we’re asking for consent before doing so.
