Harry Redknapp: ‘I choked’ Star speaks out on son’s marriage split with Louise Redknapp

Harry Redknapp, 72, who was crowned king of the jungle on the ITV series of I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! last year, has said their break-up was a “shock” and unexpectedly “came out of the blue”. Jamie Redknapp and Louise Redknapp announced they were getting a divorce in 2017 and Harry admits the news left him feeling “choked”. The football manager said the pair were not a typical “showbiz marriage” and were a “lovely pairing”. Speaking about their split, he told The Mirror: “I was choked. Absolutely. I just never ever ever could see that happening. I thought they were getting married forever. They were such a lovely couple together.

“It came completely as a shock, out of the blue. They were not a showbiz marriage if you like. Lou just did not want to be anywhere without Jamie.”

He admitted the divorce was “very sad” for himself and his wife Sandra but added Louise was happiest when she was with the kids and former beau Jamie.

Harry said: “They were very, very down to earth the pair of them. And yeah me and Sandra it was a shock when it happened. Very sad.

“It’s difficult. No-one knows what goes on behind closed doors do they in life? So you don’t know. It is sad.”

Jamie and Louise called it quits after two decades of marriage.

The couple has two sons together, Charley, 13, and Beau, nine and recent reports say they have remained good friends.

Louise recently opened up about her split from Jamie Redknapp adding it was a “mutual” decision.

She told the Guardian: “It was more mutual than that but, yes, I [was the one who] moved out.”

The former Eternal singer spoke about her “tough” divorce in an interview on BBC Radio 4’s Women’s Hour, earlier this year.

Speaking on the show, Louise said: “Going through a divorce, it being so public… It’s tough.

“No one can take that easily, it’s not an easy thing for women or men or anyone to go through.”

Louise continued: “My girlfriends have got me through some times that have been really tough.

“It’s honest and truthful friendships. Most of my friends I’ve known since school.”

Meanwhile, Harry is gearing up for this weekend’s Soccer Aid where he will co-manage the World XI team alongside Piers Morgan.

The I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! winner’s son, Jamie, will be playing in the opposite team for England.

Soccer Aid for UNICEF airs on ITV Saturday at 6.30pm.
