Harry Potter Star Tom Felton Is Open to a Reboot, and Would Jump Right In

Like pretty much everyone else on this here planet Earth, I’m a massive fan of author J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series. Not just the films, but the books as well. And today we’re hearing from Draco Malfoy himself, Tom Felton that he thinks it’s really only a matter of time before the series gets rebooted. And when it does, he says he’s up for returning. Specifically, Tom Felton says this.

“I don’t think Jo [Rowling] would want her films, her books rather and her films, to be remade anytime soon, but I’m sure in 20 years when they’ve got 4D, scratch-and-sniff cinemas, or whatever, then they’ll want to do it all over again. My hope is that when they do it I’ll be old enough to play Lucius! Give it another 15 years and I’ll come back and play Lucius. I would do it in a heartbeat.”

4D, scratch-and-sniff cinemas. That’s pretty funny, Draco. But seriously, would the Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Message from the King actor really be up for returning to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter if the occasion should arise sooner rather than later. Tom Felton reveals this.

“Yeah, I’m endlessly proud and affectionate of young Draco, so any chance to reprise that role would be great. I think we should come back and do the opposite, Rupert [Grint] should play Draco, I’ll play Hermione, Dan can play Dobby, and Emma can be Hagrid, it’s the perfect re-casting! It’ll be an interesting spin [on it]. But, seriously, if there was another chance to be in another movie then I’m sure all of us would jump at the chance to be part of it.”

Okay. First things first. Felton’s idea for a switch-up casting with himself as Hermione, Rupert Grint as Draco, Daniel Radcliffe as Dobby, and Emma Watson as Hagrid is something the world needs as soon as possible. But in all seriousness, I can’t imagine it will be much longer before someone with power behind the scenes manages to convince Rowling that rebooting the Harry Potter franchise for the screen is actually a good idea. Whether it be a two-to-three film adaptation of Rowling’s hit stage play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child with the original cast returning, an epic TV series reboot which retells the original seven books with a season spend on each volume, or a series of spin-off movies and/or TV shows centering on a young James and Lily Potter’s time at Hogwarts.

Actually, my favorite idea would be to see someone like Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon craft a seven-season series that follows young James Potter, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, Peter Pettigrew, and Severus Snape called The Marauders. Make it a The Goonies-style gang of misfit kids type of show and I think it would be a massive success. But whatever lies in store for the future of the Harry Potter series, I can tell you one thing: I’ll be there with wand at the ready. In the meantime, this story comes to us from an interview Felton recently held with The Daily Mail.
