Harry Potter Fred and George stars reveal craziest on-set pranks: ‘They ranged from silly to really out of order’

Harry Potter stars James and Oliver Phelps have revealed they took a leaf out of their characters Fred and George Weasley’s book, becoming the real-life pranksters on set.

The Weasley twins were loved throughout the books and movies for their pranks and it seems James and Oliver were no different.

Thinking back on sorts of pranks they used to play during their 10 years on the movie sets, Oliver admitted to Metro.co.uk as the twins partner with Lego for their new Diagon Alley set: ‘We were kind of given free rein because we could just claim we were method actors and we need to be able to express ourselves!

‘They range from silly to just, in hindsight, you could say “that is really out of order,”‘ he he laughed.

‘[Opposite] Leavesdon Studios, they were building the BT offices. So if you see studio tour now, opposite that there’s this big glass building. And at the time they were building and everyone had walkie-talkies at the studios to obviously say “Come down to set” and stuff like that.

‘So we borrowed one of these walkie-talkies. And we realised that on a certain channel […] was the same channel as the building site over the road.

‘To which Bonnie Wright [Ginny Weasley], James and myself, we’d have fun looking at these guys from a long distance away saying, “Hey, guys, you can go home now we’ve got a missed order” or something like that.

‘And you’d physically see people downing tools, and then the gaffer coming on and probably didn’t realise he was dealing with children with his language, but wasn’t very happy that we told his workforce to go home for the day.

‘But I suppose if you were to look back and say, yeah, you had the Weasleys telling your workforce to go home. It’s not really going to be believable when he goes to his boss about it.’

Oh to be pranked by a Weasley twin.

However, it seems the rest of the cast got their own back by mixing up the twins on a ‘daily basis’ – before they ended up taking matters into their own hands.

‘Later on, we kind of got to ask for a bit of input into character costumes, So we asked for just slightly subtle, different things, so you can see that they’re individuals as well,’ they explained.

‘So actually in the shop when so with the suits, there are different coloured waistcoats on, and just little things like that so that they look the same, but they’re slightly different.’

Fred and George are definitely front and centre in Lego’s new set, with the twins’ joke shop Weasley Wizard Wheezes being featured, and the characters presenting the augmented reality video that comes along with it when fans scan a QR code.

Chatting about their partnership with Lego, Oliver admitted: ‘Even like playing Lego as a kid when we were younger and everything like that – it’s one of those things that you can just pick up and go straight back to,

‘And be able to do that with a set from ourselves in the films, it’s just so so cool.

‘And especially having the Weasleys Wizard Wheezes and also Fred and George in there as well. It’s like a life ambition met.’
