Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone has joined the billionaire club, raking in $1billion (£757m) at the box office.

Accio that money, right?

The film is the first instalment in the wizarding franchise – based on JK Rowling’s books – was released in 2001,  and sees Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter), Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) and Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) embark on their first year at Hogwarts.

According to Variety, the movie surpassed the milestone globally, thanks to a re-release in China.

The publication states Philosopher’s Stone cast a spell on viewers last weekend, landing in the top spot of the box office in China.

It reportedly amassed a whopping $13.6million (£10m), from 16,000 screens, helping to push it into the billion-dollar range.

Not too shabby.

It has raked in just more than $1billion to date – but isn’t the only Potter film to land in the exclusive club.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, released in 2011, grossed more than $1.34billion (£1.014b).

Despite the fact the Potter movies have been insanely successful, Jason Isaacs is adamant the franchise should never be remade.

The 57-year-old – who played baddie Lucius Malfoy – revealed his thoughts on whether a possible reboot would be as successful.

And he did not hold back.

‘First of all, franchise is a word we apply to people who sell hamburgers in different places, and make sure they taste the same and that the fries are cooked for the same length of time or, you know, Starbucks, or, I don’t know, Staples or something,’ he told ComicBook.com.

‘So [they are] seven brilliant books that turned into – that were made into eight brilliant movies.

‘Do I think anyone should remake them? As much as I think anyone should remake The Godfather, or Some Like it Hot, or anything that was brilliant. I thought they were perfectly made at the perfect time by the perfect people, and that it would be insanity to remake them.’

So, that’s that then.
