Manchester United will still be without Harry Maguire through injury against Norwich on Saturday after the defender sat out their 3-1 loss to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.

The centre-back picked up a knock against Wolves in the FA Cup on Saturday, although the injury was not thought to be serious at the time as he completed the full 90 minutes.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was hoping to have the England international back for the visit of Man City in the semi-final first leg, but he did not make it back in time and United suffered in his absence.

It has now been confirmed that Maguire will also miss Saturday’s visit of Norwich to Old Trafford in the Premier League, with recovery taking much longer than expected.

The exact nature of the injury is unclear, with Solskjaer saying on Monday, ahead of the City game: ‘It is a bit early yet. We are going to give him as much time as possible. He was hobbling about yesterday but there are still 36 hours to go.’

Phil Jones deputised for Maguire alongside Victor Lindelof in the middle of defence and he will likely be called upon again against the Canaries.

The former Blackburn man also pulled up with injury late in the game against City on Tuesday night, but this is reportedly just cramp and he will be fit for the weekend.

After an encouraging run of form, United have now lost two and drawn one of their last three fixtures and will be desperate to get back to winning ways in the Premier League on Saturday.

Injuries have cetainly not helped Solskjaer, with the likes of Paul Pogba, Scott McTominay, Marcos Rojo, Eric Bailly and Timothy Fosu-Mensah all still sidelined, although Luke Shaw could return at the weekend.
