Harry Maguire: Manchester United transfer target misses Leicester training with illness

Harry Maguire missed training with Leicester City on Monday due to an illness, amid transfer interest in the 26-year-old from Manchester United.

Maguire informed Leicester’s medical staff that did not feel well enough to attend Monday’s session and granted permission to stay at home.

Brendan Rodgers, the Leicester manager, revealed earlier this month that Maguire was one of several players in his squad struggling with an illness.

The England international appeared as a substitute in the win over Scunthorpe United on 16 July despite feeling under the weather.

“In the circumstances, it would have been very easy for him not to play, but he wanted to be with the squad,” Rodgers said.

Maguire played the entirety of Leicester’s 2-1 victory over Stoke City at the bet365 Stadium on Saturday.

The 26-year-old is understood to be a priority for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s United, who are looking to strengthen in the centre of defence this summer.

United may have to make Maguire the world’s most expensive defender in order to bring him to Old Trafford, with a fee in the region of £80m required.

A deal is yet to be agreed between the two clubs, however, with just over a week remaining until the close of the transfer window.
