Harry Kane does not believe there will be any lasting effects of Raheem Sterling being dropped by England for their 7-0 thrashing of Montenegro.

The Manchester City winger was left out of the side by Gareth Southgate after a clash with England team-mate Joe Gomez at St George’s Park on Monday.

Sterling attacked the Liverpool defender verbally and physically, but will be available to play again on Sunday away to Kosovo in the final qualification game ahead of Euro 2020.

The England captain, who scored a hat-trick in the resounding victory, says that Sterling has handled the situation well and will be raring to go in the next match at the weekend.

‘We made a decision as a group,’ Kane said after the win at Wembley. ‘The gaffer spoke to me and a few of the other senior players in the team and that’s the decision that we came to.

‘Raz has apologised as we know and for us, we’re a group, things happen and we move on. This was a great way to show it.

When asked if Sterling will feel marginalised by being dropped, Kane continued: ‘Not that I know of. He’s been good around camp, he’s been training really well.

‘Of course he’ll have been disappointed not to play today, but I’m sure he’ll be ready to go and trying to get on the pitch on Sunday.’

Sterling’s state of mind has not been helped by the actions of some fans, though, who booed Gomez when he came on as a substitute in the 70th minute on Thursday night.

The Man City star tweeted: ‘To all the England fans, I wanted to leave things as it was but tonight I have to speak again.

‘It was hard for me to see my team mate get booed for something that was my fault.

‘Joe hasn’t done anything wrong and for me to see someone who keeps his head down and work hard, especially after a difficult week for him to be booed when he came on tonight was wrong.

‘I’ve taken full responsibility and accepted the consequence. I felt as though I had to say this get home safe every one.’

Kane added on Gomez’s ridiculous reception: ‘I don’t think any England player should ever be booed, bit confusing as to why, I can’t get my head around it.’
