Harry Hill: ‘I’d start crying’ TV presenter admits having PTSD after end of show

Harry Hill, 54, finished presenting his self-titled show, TV Burp, in 2012, which took a humorous approach to programmes aired the previous week.

But after wrapping up on the ITV show, Harry admitted he had a bit of PTSD and didn’t watch any TV for a long time.

The comedian even said he would “cry” when Emmerdale’s theme tune came on.

“I came off that show and was a bit PTSD about TV, to the stage where if I heard the Emmerdale theme tune, I’d start crying,” he told Radio Times.

“And so I didn’t watch much for a while.”

These days, Harry said he does indulge in a little TV, particularly reality shows.

“I watch a lot of trash,” he divulged.

“My wife’s a big fan of [reality TV cable channel] TLC so we watch Dr Pimple Popper, 90 Day Fiancé, all that stuff.”

The star also revealed how he thinks TV Burp would fare in today’s social media age.

He said: “I think what fills that gap is Gogglebox.

“They don’t cover anywhere near as many shows as we used to, but there’s something sweet and funny at the same time.”

In a dig at the Channel 4 stars, he added: “Although after they’ve been on it for a while, they do start to become a bit knowing, a bit try-hard.”

Meanwhile, Gogglebox ended last Friday with the new series returning this September.

To fill the void, a new celebrity series is set to hit screens in two weeks time.

The show tweeted: “So excited to announce a brand new series!

“Celebrity Gogglebox starts June 14th @ 9pm on @Channel4 #Gogglebox #CelebrityGogglebox #whoisonthesofa #onlytwoweekstowait.”

Fans of the show were over the moon with the news, with one person commenting: “I’m sooo ready for this.”

Another said: “Oooo this is exciting looking forward to it.”

A third said: “Fantastic! Then can we do goggleboxers watching celebrity gogglebox , I think that would be hilarious.”

Celebrity Gogglebox airs on June 14 on Channel 4.
