Happy Mondays star Bez is reportedly grieving the death of his father as well as his bandmate Paul Ryder.

The English pop group have been left devastated by the death of bassist Paul, who died suddenly on July 15 at the age of 58, hours before the band were due to perform a gig.

However, it’s not the only ordeal they’ve had to deal with as Bez, real name Mark Berry, is also said to be in mourning over the death of his father just hours later.

Bez, 58, had reportedly rushed over to bandmate Shaun Ryder’s home to comfort the grieving singer after his brother Paul’s death, when he received a phone call that his own father had become unwell.

The dancer and percussionist then had to leave and travel to his family home in Blackpool, where his father died in the early hours of Saturday morning.

According to the Mail Online, the funeral for Bez’s father took place in the week before Paul was laid to rest, and it’s said the music star talked about his father at his bandmate’s service.

‘The band have taken two really big hits in the past few weeks. First Paul goes, then Bez had to cope with his dad’s death,’ a source close to the family told the Mail Online.

‘But Bez is really, really private when it comes to his parents and family and he didn’t want to make a big public announcement or make a big show of it.

‘He dealt with his grief quietly while comforting Shaun at the same time.’

Paul’s funeral was described as a ‘double-farewell’ due to many of the mourners aware that Bez’s dad had also died.

‘Glasses were not only raised to Paul but also to Bez’s dad at the wake,’ the insider added.

It’s said that Bez is very private about his relationship with his father, whose name hasn’t been revealed, and didn’t want to ‘overshadow’ the mourning of Paul.

Shaun, 59, recently spoke out about his brother’s death, and revealed that Paul had complained of headaches in the hours before his body was found at their mother’s home in Manchester.

The family are awaiting the full report of the autopsy but Shaun has dismissed suggestions that Paul’s former heroin use was a contributing factor to his death.
