Hanukkah Trailer: Sid Haig's Final Horror Movie Is a Holiday Nightmare

In one of his very last acting roles, House of 1000 Corpses star and genre legend Sid Haig will appear in the new holiday horror movie Hanukkah. Written and directed by Eben McGarr (House of the Wolf Man), the movie will premiere in select theaters on Dec. 13 with home video releases on VHS and Blu-ray to follow in limited quantities. The official trailer is also available to watch online, and you can take a look at it below.

The Hanukkah trailer arrives just a few months after Sid Haig’s death. If the footage and synopsis are any indication, Hanukkah looks to be a rather fun holiday-themed slasher movie, the likes of which we don’t see too often these days. The story follows a group of Jewish young adults preparing for the Festival of Lights, only to find out they are instead in store for a Festival of Frights. When they learn they have been targeted by a bloodthirsty murderer for violating Judaic law, the group’s best chance for survival is to embrace their faith with the help of a wise Rabbi.

Joining Sid Haig in the movie are a handful of other well-known stars of the horror genre. This includes P. J. Soles, who starred in John Carpenter’s original Halloween movie and the first Carrie adaptation; Soles can even be heard uttering her Halloween catch phrase, “Totally,” in the Hanukkah trailer. Other genre favorites featured in the cast include Caroline Williams (Hatchet III, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2), Charles Fleischer (A Nightmare on Elm Street), and Sadie Katz (Wrong Turn 6).

Rather appropriately for a retro-style slasher movie, Hanukkah will be released on VHS later this month. With each of the video tapes arriving in classic clamshell cases, the VHS edition of Hanukkah comes in three separate colors: blue, yellow, and black. Priced at $25, the VHS version can now be pre-ordered, though all three colors are limited to only 100 copies each. Also priced at $25 is the Hanukkah Blu-ray, which comes loaded with special features and will be shipped come February.

Since His passing back in September, fans and colleagues have been mourning the loss of Sid Haig. The veteran actor died just days after the release of 3 from Hell, which saw him reprising his legendary Captain Spaulding role one last time. In addition to Hanukkah, Haig also posthumously stars in the upcoming horror movie Abruptio alongside Jordan Peele, Robert Englund, James Marsters, and Christopher McDonald. Making every movie he appears in that much better, Haig was a truly special person and a one of a kind actor.

Hanukkah will be released in limited theaters on Dec. 13 with its VHS copies shipping on Dec. 20. The Blu-ray version will also be released on Feb. 11, 2020. Featuring one of the last-ever performances of Sid Haig, it’s certainly worth checking out. Each of the home video releases are of a limited quantity, so if you want to snag a copy, you may want to jump on that soon. You can also find out more information about the movie and pre-order a copy at the official HanuKiller website.
