Hand luggage: Using this everyday item guarantees your liquids meet flight baggage limits

Hand luggage restrictions on-board a flight might only leave some holidaymakers with space for a couple of outfit changes and a pared-down cosmetics selection. Increasingly, budget airlines such as Ryanair are ramping up their regulations for free baggage, meaning airline passengers may have even less space for their belongings. They can of course pay to put a bag in the hold. Yet with these extra fees often proving costly many opt for savvy packing hacks instead.

A spokesperson for Mybaggage.com told Express.co.uk how it was “too easy” for travellers to over pack.

As a way to address this, they put forward using a handy everyday item, commonplace in many homes, to store cosmetics and creams.

They suggested keeping old compact contact lens cases before jetting away, so passengers can fill them with creams and serums.

The spokesperson said: “Contact lens cases are great for taking your favourite face creams.

“You should have just enough for your sunshine break.”

They also offered a handy hack to prevent messy stains in hand luggage, and added: “To prevent liquids spilling all over your case, unscrew the lids of the bottle, place a small piece of plastic over the bottle and screw the lid back on.”

Meanwhile, they added anything breakable should be wrapped in socks or comfy shoes.

They added: “Packing your case and only taking what you actually need is a real art.

“It’s too easy to over pack and chuck everything you could possibly want into your case – only to bring it back home unworn and full of creases.

“Instead, plan ahead, make a list and only take what you need.

“Easy tips like taking small travel sized bottles of your favourite shampoo and conditioner is an obvious one.”

The travel gurus also suggest using an oven mitt for any electrical items which may still be warm when packing, in order to protect delicate garments in a carry on bag.

The tips can be used for short haul flights as well as flights which connect to cruises, at their port of departure.

Budget airline Ryanair was recently forced to clarify its baggage allowance after changing the guidelines in November 2018.

According to the Ryanair website: “All passengers are entitled to bring one small personal bag on board.” It “must fit under the seat in front of you (40cm x 20cm x 25cm).

“Examples include a handbag, laptop bag and small backpack.”
