Hand luggage: How a basic bathroom item can keep cabin baggage clean during a holiday

Hand luggage limitations often see passengers forced to pack logically, while cramming lots of different items in the same bag. This means products such as cosmetics, electrical items and shoes will be sandwiched alongside clothing and swimwear. Particularly on the return journey, sandy flip flops and unclean garments have the potential to mess up others. Yet a handy hack for keeping all items clean – and something which won’t weigh down a hand luggage suitcase, has come to light.

Travel experts from MyBaggage.com have eased holidaymakers fears by suggesting a top top involving a simple bathroom item.

They urge passengers to wrap up their shoes in a plastic shower cap, and said: “Wrap shoes in cotton bags which can be washed when you get home.

“If they’re sandy or grubby it’ll stop any mess getting on to the rest of your items.

“Or alternatively, try putting them in a shower cap.”

The simple hack – with travellers able to pick up shower caps in their hotel rooms – could help many items from becoming stained or scuffed in the tight constraints of hand luggage.

Meanwhile, the company’s travel gurus have also suggested wrapping bottles of perfume and aftershave in socks and shoes for extra padding to stop breakages.

For heavier items, they advised placing these by the wheels of the case.

This means when a passenger stands up to pull their bag along, the items will be at the bottom.

A spokesperson from My Baggage.com said: “Packing your case and only taking what you actually need is a real art.

“It’s too easy to over pack and chuck everything you could possibly want into your case – only to bring it back home unworn and full of creases.

“Instead, plan ahead, make a list and only take what you need.

“Easy tips like taking small travel sized bottles of your favourite shampoo and conditioner is an obvious one and taking face cream in compact contact lens cases.

“Other advice helps you transport things safely and without damage.

“Wrapping heating tools in an oven mitt protects them and surrounding items in your case and earrings in a button means no lost backs.”

Meanwhile, the top tip may be handy for those who are heading off for an Easter holiday.

ABTA The Travel Association estimates 2.1 million British holidaymakers are set to head overseas over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend.

They forecast Good Friday the busiest day for travel, with Spain the UK’s favourite foreign holiday destination for the weekend.

Malaga, Alicante and the Canary Islands are the most popular regions and temperatures this weekend are set to reach 21C in Malaga, 23C in Alicante and 23C in Gran Canaria.
