Hamilton star Miguel Cervantes has bravely returned to the stage just a week after the death of his three-year-old daughter Adelaide.

The 42-year-old, who’s currently starring in the lead role of Alexander Hamilton, went back to work on Tuesday night at the CIBC Theatre in Chicago.

Theatre-goers were no doubt shocked to see Miguel back on stage so soon after his beloved daughter Adelaide died.

Adelaide had battled Infantile Spasms (IS) and epilepsy since she was a baby and died in her mother’s arms on 12 October.

Not long before stepping back onto the theatre boards, Miguel shared a photo of himself smiling backstage while dressed up in his Hamilton costume.

‘Lez go,’ he simply captioned the image.

His wife, Kelly Cervantes, applauded her husband’s return to work and shared an emotional message on her own social media accounts.

Alongside a photo of the stage, Kelly said: ‘The first time I saw @hamiltonmusical, @MiggstaC09 was by my side and the OBC on stage.

‘Adelaide was heavy in my stomach as I squished into the seats 8 months pregnant. Tonight, I watch my husband retake the stage and Miss A is still with us but now resting heavy in my heart [sic].’

The couple held Adelaide’s funeral service earlier this week and thanked their friends and family for their support.

‘To everyone who joined us in celebrating Adelaide’s life, The room felt packed with love. The air was charged with your energy.

‘It was perfect. I wish I could go back hug every single one of you. We will begin to move forward with filled hearts.’

Miguel had confirmed their tragic loss last week with a heartbreaking photo of Adelaide’s bedroom with the caption: ‘The machines are off. Her bed is empty. The quiet is deafening. Adelaide left us early Saturday.

‘She went peacefully in her mother’s arms, surrounded by love. Finally, she is free from pain + seizures but leaves our hearts shattered. We love you so much Adelaideybug and forever after.’

The family also addressed Adelaide’s passing in a statement released to People, which said: ‘The Cervantes family is heartbroken to announce that their baby girl Adelaide Grace passed away early Saturday morning.

‘She was held in the loving arms of her family as she peacefully achieves the “calm” for which they’ve been searching for so long. They would like to extend their deepest, heartfelt gratitude to all who have reached out with words of support and prayer and will continue to feel all the love as they go through this difficult time.’

Adelaide was diagnosed with IS – where the child has multiple seizures within a short period of time – at just nine months old.

Miguel and Kelly, who are also parents to a seven-year-old son Jackson, were able to keep Adelaide at home with them in her final days.
