Halloween Kills star Jamie Lee Curtis has said that she thinks the upcoming entry into the classic horror franchise is a masterpiece.

Curtis is a veteran of the franchise, appearing as Laurie Strode in John Carpenter’s seminal 1978 horror, Halloween. She’s returned to the role in four movies and is going to be back for the upcoming Halloween Kills.

Speaking to SiriusXM, Curtis is clearly happy with the film and the themes which it explores. Curtis said: ‘The power, of the rage of voices, big groups of people coming together enraged at the set of circumstances, is what the movie is about.

‘It’s about a mob, which infects an entire community. But when you see it, it’s a seething group of people moving through the story as a big angry group. It’s really, really, really intense. It’s a masterpiece.’

Halloween Kills was meant to be released this year but was unfortunately pushed back to next October due to production complications around the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, producer Jason Blum, has assured fans that their wait will not be longer than a year.

He said: ‘No, we’re not holding it. Halloween Kills is coming out next October come hell or high water, vaccine or no vaccine. It is coming out.’

Blum is known for his work on some of the most influential horror films of the last decade, with credits on Get Out, The Purge, Paranormal Activity and The Invisible Man.

To assure horror fans of his approach to the Halloween franchise, he said: ‘I always look at horror as dramas with scary elements, as opposed to those executives who don’t like horror, they look at it as killing people with some story stuck between the kills.

‘If you look at most of our movies, they will work without the violence. Many horror movies won’t, and they tend to be not so good. The key to a great horror movie is the same as the key to any movie or show, and that is storytelling, not how you cut someone’s head off.’

Halloween Kills is a sequel to 2018’s Halloween, which acted as a retcon of the franchise, only acknowledging the first movie in the franchise. It will see Laurie and Michael Myers go at it again, but little is known about the film’s plot currently.

Halloween Kills is set to release on October 15, 2021.
