Halloumi fries are now permanently available at Tesco

Tesco is the latest supermarket to indulge our halloumi obsession as the supermarket chain announces it is adding halloumi fries to its permanent range.

Previously only available at Christmas, the fries will be available in the fridge snack section and are described as ‘halloumi pieces coated in a golden breadcrumb for a crisp finish’.

A spokesperson for Tesco said: “Following the initial release as part of the Tesco Christmas food products, the Tesco Halloumi Fries are now available all year round in store and online. They are priced at £3.00.”

Last year, Aldi became the first supermarket in the UK to add the cheesy fries to its permanent range with boxes of the good stuff available to buy in the freezer section for £1.99 a box.

Yet, in July, Aldi announced it was limiting shoppers to two boxes each after a surge in popularity and the price was upped by 30p to £2.29. While Tesco’s halloumi fries are available in stores, they are currently sold out online.

Tesco may have to follow Aldi’s lead and limit the amount of fries sold as halloumi cheese is currently facing a worldwide shortage.

Data analysed by The Grocer found the average price of halloumi is up by 12 per cent from last year and the UK consumes around 12,000 tonnes of halloumi each year.
