Nintendo didn’t have the best-selling video game of December, 2019. According to the NPD group, last month’s best-selling game was Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare.
Actually, it isn’t until the fifth spot that you’ll find Nintendo’s best-selling game of the month: Luigi’s Mansion 3. And that’s when things start to get interesting. The next four spots are all Nintendo Switch games. Half of the top 10 games of December were Nintendo’s.
In fact, half of the top 20 were also Nintendo Switch titles, with the 16th – 20th place spots all Switch games. No other publisher comes close. Rockstar has two of the top spots with GTA V (#11) and Red Dead Redemption 2 (12). EA has several, with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (#2), Madden NFL 20 (#3), FIFA 20 (#13) and Need for Speed: Heat (#15). Every other publisher nabs just one.

If this doesn’t paint a picture of the Nintendo Switch’s breakout success, I don’t know what will. It’s an incredible feat. And while this is only reflective of game sales in the US, it’s most likely mirrored in other regions as well—and is likely even more pronounced in Japan.
