Hakim Ziyech has sparked injury concerns after hobbling off in his first appearance for Chelsea.
The playmaker was named by Frank Lampard in the starting eleven which took on Brighton at the Amex Stadium and immediately impressed Chelsea fans by setting up their opening goal.
Ziyech set up Timo Werner’s tap-in with an excellent cross, but the 24-year-old’s game was cut short in the second half.
After being on the wrong end of a challenge, Ziyech went down having appeared to hurt his ankle and received treatment on the pitch before being replaced from Conor Gallagher.
Chelsea fans will be hoping the substitution is just a precaution, with Ziyech struggling with a calf injury for the last year.
Ziyech wasn’t the only Chelsea player to go off injured, with Olivier Giroud having to bow out after sustaining a cut to the head.
The new Premier League season kicks off on 12 September, but Chelsea do not play until 14 September when they take on Brighton.
The game between Chelsea and Brighton was the first time fans were in attendance since the coronavirus lockdown.
Brighton made 2,500 tickets available for the match, with fans expected to social distance inside the ground.
