Imminent Chelsea signing Hakim Ziyech could be the club’s answer to Riyad Mahrez, according to Tony Cascarino.

Chelsea have reportedly wrapped up a £38million deal with Ajax for Ziyech and the 26-year-old attacking midfielder is expected to complete a move to Stamford Bridge in the summer.

It’s understood the Blues have agreed to pay a €45million (£37.8m) fee for Ziyech following advanced discussions between the two clubs over recent days.

Ziyech is widely regarded as one of the finest players in the Dutch Eredivisie after racking up 29 goals and 45 assists since joining Ajax back in 2016 and Cascarino is greatly looking forward to his arrival.

The ex-Chelsea striker believes Frank Lampard would be ‘very, very lucky’ to add a player of Ziyech’s quality to his squad and has compared the Moroccan international to Manchester City’s Mahrez.

‘Ziyech has got everything. He’s a bit like Riyad Mahrez – he can dribble and go past you, he’s quite direct, he’s a great set piece taker, he has a fantastic assist record, he just sees passes,’ Cascarino told talkSPORT.

‘He’s just got everything in the game.

‘I think he’s one hell of a talent and Chelsea would be very, very lucky to get him.

‘He destroyed Real Madrid last year; he really played a big part in Ajax getting the better of Real at the Bernabeu.

‘He’s a real talent who I think would be a fantastic addition to Chelsea.’

Ajax head coach Erik ten Hag appeared to confirm Ziyech’s impending switch ahead of the side’s clash with Vitesse Arnhem on Wednesday night.

‘Ziyech to Chelsea? A transfer was coming, we expected it to happen,’ he said.

‘And I actually already expected this one or two years earlier. And each time it was: “Wow, he stayed again”.

‘We are just happy that we will still have him until the end of the season.’

After the match, Ten Hag added: ‘I have known what Hakim wants for a long time, he is very clear about that.

‘If it comes around, I would only applaud that, because it’s a fantastic club. We first have to wait until it is final, but if it is, we are very happy for Hakim.

‘I am very proud of him.’
