GWYNETH Paltrow has been accused of peddling dangerous products and treatments by the head of the NHS.
Sir Simon Stevens likened the actress, 47, to “quacks, charlatans and cranks” who push unproven therapies.
He blasted the “wellness industry” — including Paltrow’s firm Goop — over products carrying “considerable risks to health”.
Paltrow’s new Netflix series The Goop Lab was also ridiculed for its crazy health claims.
It features “vampire facials” when blood is re-injected, as well as a bizarre “bodyworker” with hovering hands.
Sir Simon said the man “claims to cure both acute psychological trauma and side-effects by simply moving his hands two inches above a customer’s body”.
Paltrow and her team also promote “DIY coffee enema machines, despite them carrying considerable risks to health,” he said.
He insisted there was “no scientific evidence to suggest there are any health benefits associated with colonic irrigation”.
The NHS chief also dismissed the idea of a “psychic vampire repellent” and said “fake news” was not confined to politics.
He added: “People’s natural concern for their health, and particularly about that of their loved ones, makes this particularly fertile ground for quacks, charlatans, and cranks.”
Goop paid £111,000 to settle a US lawsuit in 2018 after claiming its vaginal “jade eggs” could balance hormones and regulate menstrual cycles.
In a speech at Oxford’s Sheldonian Theatre, Sir Simon also took aim at social media bots and anti-vaccination campaigners.
He said: “Lies and misinformation can now be round the world at the touch of a button — before the truth has reached for its socks, never mind got its boots on.
“Myths and misinformation have been put on steroids by the availability of misleading claims online.”
He highlighted the danger of disgraced doctor Andrew Wakefield, whose 1998 research wrongly linked the MMR jab to autism.
It led to a steep rise in cases of mumps, with half of victims having not been vaccinated.
He said: “Anti-vax lies have spawned health burdens being borne by children and parents in 2020.”
