Look no further for your next television obsession, because Hollywood fairy Goopmother, Gwyneth Paltrow, has confirmed she will make her small screen return in the new Netflix Original series, The Politician.
The actress-turned-businesswoman took to Instagram to confirm her arrival as the latest cast member on the upcoming series, admitting that only her husband Brad Falchuk, who co-created the show, could convince her to step in front of the camera once more.
“Only @bradfalchuk and his ingenious writing could get me back to the original day job. The Politician starts on @netflix September 27 (my birthday!),” she wrote.
So, what do we know about the TV show so far? According to the official synopsis, The Politician follows the story of Payton Hobart (played by Platt), a wealthy student from Santa Barbara, California, with lofty political ambitions to become the next President of the United States.
First though, Payton must “navigate the most treacherous political landscape of all: Saint Sebastian High School,” and learn to outsmart his classmates without sacrificing his own morality on the road to success.
While Paltrow will take a major starring role in the series, she sits in in stellar company alongside Ben Platt, Zoey Deutch, Lucy Boynton, Laura Dreyfuss and Rahne Jones, who have all been cast as regular characters.
As if those names weren’t enough to induce a Netflix binge, The Politician will also feature Hollywood heavyweights like Bette Midler, American Horror Story‘s Jessica Lange and Bohemian Rhapsody‘s Lucy Boynton.
As well as the outrageous A-list cast, the show was written by Ryan Murphy, the writer and producer who scored hits with Glee and American Horror Story, so we can look forward to some stellar television writing.
There’s not too long to wait till we can watch Oscar-winning Gwynnie on our laptops either, as the upcoming series will stream from 27 September – the perfect consolation as summer draws to a close.
