The research comes as Britain’s obesity epidemic continues to spiral out of control.

Campaigners slammed the chains for adding to Britain’s health woes.

Clare Thornton-Wood of the British Dietetic Association said: “These burgers on their own in many cases exceed the full days kcal allowance for a woman and in some cases for a man.

“They all exceed the daily recommended intake of total fat, saturated fat and salt.

“Whilst people do have a choice over the menu choices it does not really seem sensible for restaurants to be tempting consumers with this type of product.”

Findings were revealed as NHS data revealed there were 202,665 new cases of diabetes in England and Wales in 2017.

Public Health England recently warned Britain is on its way to becoming a “nation of fatties”.

Two-thirds of adults and a third of children are now overweight – and the UK has the third highest obesity rate in Europe.

Experts say 90 per cent of diabetes sufferers have the Type 2 form, which is linked to sedentary lifestyles and poor diet.
