Twitter user Rick noticed the unusual sight, tweeting: “The holiday inn birmingham airport have a f*****g Christmas tree up.”

He posted a picture of the small tree, which has presents underneath as well as a Santa’s hat on top.

It also has a few sparse baubles and decorations along with blue cards that say ‘Winter Wonderland’ on it.

Social media users were stunned by the early start to the festive season.

Twitter user Angie wrote: “That’s criminal!!!!! We’re still in August for God’s sake.”

In response, another person wrote: “There should be laws! Maybe we need to start a petition.”
Someone else simply said: “What the Hell.”

Others said they would “throw it in the skip” if they were in the area.

Jamie Wood joked: “No way – are you sure the lazy brummies just haven’t got around to taking last years down?”
Others felt it was a rather sad-looking tree.

Mat Read wrote: “I mean….if you’re going to do it, do it well. Go balls out on it. The half arsedness of this adds to the tragedy.”

Ewelina Tomiszczak, Commercial Director of the hotel, told Birmingham Live that they put the tree up to “bring this delightful spirit to the hotel all year round”.

A heatwave is expected to blast Britain this weekend, with highs of up to 33 degrees.

Sadly, the hotel isn’t the first place to put their Christmas tree up this year.

The Air Balloon pub in Bristol put their tree up in July while the country sweltered in 37 degree heat.

According to the British Christmas Tree Growers Association (BCTGA), trees should be put up by December 1.

Christmas shop opens at Brown Thomas with huge number of decorations in store – with prices starting at €4

Others put their Christmas tree up on on December 2 for the beginning of Advent, or December 6, for Saint Nicholas Day.

Selfridges also launched their Christmas shop already this year on July 29 – 149 days ahead of the day.
