GTA 6 release update: Bad news for Grand Theft Auto fans waiting on late PS4, Xbox reveal

Recent GTA 6 release news has been dominated by rumours and information garnered from events happening around Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive.

Meanwhile, the studio in charge of one of the next major game releases has yet to offer any updates regarding the next Grand Theft Auto title.

Fans have instead been turning to online sources and information found in unexpected places.

This includes news shared through recent Job ads and former employees who have listed work they have done during their time at Rockstar Games.

But it doesn’t look like we’ll be hearing much from Rockstar Games officially, regarding GTA 6, in 2019, which could be seen as a blow for PS4 and Xbox One owners.

The list of big events that the famous studio could partner up with are now pretty thin on the ground.

Some of the remaining events that host game reveals include The Game Awards and the PlayStation Awards in Japan.

The Game Awards will be held on December 12 and will include new looks at titles such as Gears Tactics.

There are also rumours that other projects will be announced during the show, which is hosted by Geoff Keighley.

Previous years has seen TGA team up with popular franchises, such as PUBG and Fortnite Battle Royale.

So it’s plausible that Rockstar Games could get in on the act this year too.

The only thing that downs this idea is that Rockstar Games has not needed to partner up with anyone when announcing a new game for quite some time.

Rockstar working on a new project is newsworthy in its self and would no doubt grab headlines even if it was something small.

But the way in which Rockstar used Twitter and social media channels to announce Red Dead Redemption 2, seems a more likely template for GTA 6.

Meanwhile, the PlayStation Awards will be held on December 3 and recognises the PlayStation versions of hit titles sold across the Japan and Asia regions.

That’s not to say that TGA 2019 or the PlayStation Awards wouldn’t make a great platform to show off a big new Grand Theft Auto trailer.

Both events are widely watched in their regions and would make a great time to grab headlines after all the big games have been launched for the year.

But based on prior announcements, we would predict a much more low-key reveal made by Rockstar Games, whenever they feel the time is right.

It was recently confirmed by parent company Take-Two Interactive that new content is being planned for GTA 5 Online.

The hit game is still a big seller on PS4, Xbox One and PC, and was recently added to the PlayStation Now lineup.

These new online expansions will be launched alongside fresh updates for Red Dead Redemption 2, although no set release dates have been confirmed.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has also teased that the company has some big plans for the future.

“Looking ahead, Take-Two has the strongest development pipeline in its history, including sequels from our biggest franchises as well as exciting new IP,” he told investors during a recent call.

“We are actively investing in emerging markets, platforms and business models, and are exceedingly well-positioned to capitalise on the positive trends in our industry and to generate growth and margin expansion over the long-term.”
