GTA 6 release date update and new Grand Theft Auto boost for PS4 and Xbox One

GTA 6 release date news begins today with positive updates from Rockstar Games and parent company Take-Two Interactive, regarding the future of the franchise.

And this is for both gamers waiting for the next Grand Theft Auto game and those who are enjoying the current title on PS4 and Xbox One.

While official news regarding the GTA 6 release date remains thin on the ground, there’s plenty for Grand Theft Auto fans to be happy about.

Rockstar Games remains busy supporting Red Dead Redemption 2, which just recently expanded onto PC. And with the technical troubles currently affecting the title, there’s going to be a heavy emphasis on solving them.

But that doesn’t mean work isn’t continuing on other games currently in development or being treated as a live service.

Rockstar and Take-Two remain tight-lipped on the future of Grand Theft Auto, but they have confirmed some good news for fans.

While not giving much away, T2 CEO Strauss Zelnick has revealed that the company is working on their strongest lineup of games yet.

Take-Two has an extensive library of IPs to pull from, including recent titles like Borderlands 3 and the NBA 2K series.

But Zelnick has also highlighted the fact that more sequels are on the way from the company’s biggest franchises.

And the largest of them all has to be Grand Theft Auto, which remains in healthy shape on PS4 and Xbox One.

Commenting during a recent financial report, Zelnick highlighted the strength of their plans, telling investors:

“Looking ahead, Take-Two has the strongest development pipeline in its history, including sequels from our biggest franchises as well as exciting new IP.

“We are actively investing in emerging markets, platforms and business models, and are exceedingly well-positioned to capitalise on the positive trends in our industry and to generate growth and margin expansion over the long-term.”

This final comment may also be in regards to the newly emerging cloud gaming market, which will soon see Google Stadia join PlayStation Now and Project xCloud.

So while there is no direct news here regarding GTA 6, having the strongest lineup in your history could hint at a significant inclusion in the year ahead.

There have been rumours that GTA 6 will be announced in 2020, followed by a launch on the PS5 and Xbox Scarlett.

Perhaps Google Stadia will be added to this list of supported devices in the future. But Rockstar Games are also known for delaying their projects until they are ready, so these rumours could be out of date.

Fans will want to hold out for an official announcement from Rockstar Games, which could come at any time. And while they’re waiting, they can look forward to new content being released for GTA 5 Online.

Zelnick also confirmed this during the investor call, revealing that more content would be released for GTA Online and Red Dead Online.

“As a result of our better-than-expected second-quarter operating results, we are once again raising our operating outlook for fiscal 2020,” Zelnick adds.

“The third quarter is off to a solid start with the launches of The Outer Worlds, Red Dead Redemption 2 for PC and WWE 2K20, and we will bolster our holiday line-up with offerings for Google Stadia and Sid Meier’s Civilization VI for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

“Throughout the fiscal year, we will continue to support our titles with experiences designed to captivate audiences and drive ongoing engagement, including new content for Grand Theft Auto Online and Red Dead Online.”

For now, it’s unclear just how big an update Rockstar Games are planning for GTA 5 Online and how long fans may have to wait.
