GTA 6 release date news: Huge blow as exciting Grand Theft Auto rumour gets killed off

GTA 6 release date news is headlined today with a popular Grand Theft Auto rumour which has been killed off. The new year begins as the previous one finished, with plenty of rumours swirling around Grand Theft Auto 6. Rockstar Games are yet to confirm that GTA 6 actually exists but that hasn’t stopped the rumour mill making big claims about the new Grand Theft Auto.

Ever since Red Dead Redemption 2 came out towards the end of 2018 fans have been left wondering if GTA 6 is next on the radar for Rockstar Games.

And in 2019 the GTA 6 rumour mill went into overdrive with it all sparked by one particular post about the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series.

This GTA 6 rumour originated from Pastebin and was allegedly penned by a third-party dev that has knowledge of Sony’s plans for the PS5.

It was claimed that GTA 6 was going to be a launch title for the PS5, and that Sony had paid huge money for timed exclusive rights.

This opened the floodgates with tonnes more GTA 6 rumours emerging last year.

It was claimed GTA 6 would be set in Vice City, would only be for next-gen consoles and would be about a drug smuggler in the 70s and 80s.

All these rumours eventually led to the cast of Grand Theft Auto 5 being quizzed about what they knew about GTA 6.

At the Brazil Game Show 2019 the three main voice actors from GTA 5 appeared at the YouTube Gaming booth where they fielded questions from fans.

Both Steven Ogg and Shawn Fonteno made some interesting comments.

Ogg when asked when GTA 6 would be coming out said: “It will be out soon.

“Games are usually produced between seven and eight years, so do the math”.

While Fonteno talked about the possibility of GTA San Andreas’ CJ making a return in a future project.

He said: “Well, I don’t know if everybody knows but Young Maylay is my real cousin in real life and he played the character CJ.

“But me and him we have something coming up. I just can’t talk about it right now.

“We might be bringing CJ back, I just can’t say.”

These comments from Fonteno were revealed in a post by the Gigamaster YouTube account.

And following on from these comments Young Maylay has spoken out.

However, those hoping CJ could make an appearance in GTA 6 look to be in for disappointment.

Addressing the rumours on Instagram the rapper said: “To kill the rumours! Im not involved in GTA VI at all.. F*** @Rockstargames period.. CJ will have to be voiced by another ** but not me”.

The news will come as a disappointment to those hoping the popular character could have made an appearance in either GTA 6 or in a GTA 5 update.

As we begin 2020 fans will be left wondering if those rumours about GTA 6 coming out this year as a timed PS5 exclusive are indeed true.

What is interesting about that particular rumour is the post which mentioned the GTA 6 claims also got plenty of other PS5 details right.

That anonymous Pastebin post correctly predicted the PS5 would be backwards compatible, and boast 8K and ray tracing visuals before Sony revealed this.

Which could lend weight to the other claims made – but as always it’s best to take rumours with a big dollop of salt until official confirmation.

Either way, fans hopefully won’t have long to wait to find out more.

Sony are rumoured to be holding a major PS5 unveiling event in February.

It’s likely the launch line-up for the PlayStation 5 will be announced at the event along with release date and price details.

And, if Sony has indeed paid huge money for timed GTA 6 exclusive rights, then maybe the game will get revealed at the upcoming rumoured Sony event.
