Greta Thunberg, the 16-year-old environmental activist, has been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize

Here at GLAMOUR we’re all about doing our bit to help save our planet and finding news ways to lead more sustainable lifestyles.

And that’s why we are so damn inspired by the amazing Greta Thunberg, a 16-year-old student and environmental activist from Sweden who has just been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize.

And if she wins, she will become the youngest-ever recipient, following women’s rights and education activist, Malala Yousafzai, who won in 2014 when she was just 17. You go, girl!

You may recognise Greta Thunberg from the very viral peaceful protest that she held outside the Swedish Parliament. At just 15 years old, she sat outside every day for three weeks to protest her government’s lack of action towards global warming.

Following this, the young activist pledged to stand outside the Swedish Parliament every Friday until action was made – policy changes have not been made, but no one can deny the power of Thundberg’s movement, which has taken off worldwide and inspired children everywhere to fight for their future.

Her campaign, #FridaysforFuture, took to a new height last week as students from across the globe gathered in their cities to march for climate change efforts – spanning across a total of 1,659 places in 105 countries.

Norwegian Parliament representative, Freddy Andrew Ovstehard, stated: “We have proposed Greta Thunberg because if we do nothing to halt climate change, it will be the cause of wars, conflict and refugees,” claiming her movement has caused a major contribution to global peace efforts.

The winner of the Nobel Prize will be announced in October 2019 and the formal awards ceremony takes place in Oslo, Norway, in December.
