No awards have even been handed out yet and Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach‘s night has already entered “surreal” territory.

And not only because Gerwig was wearing more than 96 carats of Bulgari diamonds and emeralds between her necklace, earrings and ring.

The couple have a dozen nominations between them this year—six for her Little Women and six for his Marriage Story, including Best Picture nods for both—and on their way to the 2020 Oscars they realized that they had probably stop to look around, or they might miss it.

“It’s just surreal and amazing and we’re so grateful,” Gerwig told Ryan Seacrest on E! Live From the Red Carpet. “I feel on the way here we were looking at each other, like, let’s take this in, like, what’s happening?”

“This has been amazing,” Baumbach agreed.

Baumbach has talked about how his partner in life and frequent collaborator has helped him be better at enjoying the moment, and we definitely saw that dynamic at work tonight.

Speaking of work… yes, they take it home with them.

Asked if that was a good thing, Gerwig responded with a resounding “yes!”

“It makes my work better,” she said, to which Baumbach added, “Mine, too…and then work and life fuse.”

“There’s a lot of, like, ‘could you look at the coverage of this scene and tell me if you think I got it” while we’re on set…It’s a lot of that,” Gerwig explained. “It’s a lot of everything.”

Considering she’s up for Best Adapted Screenplay for her Civil War-era-yet-very-of-the-now take on Louisa May Alcott’s classic novel and Baumbach is up for Best Original Screenplay for the exactingly worded Marriage Story, we bet it is a lot of everything.

But they’ve been handling awards season with aplomb.

“We already share a baby, so the nominations, that’s easy,” Baumbach said.
