A pug who took a tumble down a 130ft deep well was saved after firemen enticed her into a bag with her favourite food.

Kiki was miraculously uninjured after her fall, much to her owner’s relief, but they were left with a small problem – how on earth were they going to get her out?

Her family grew worried as the sun began to set, and called the fire brigade to help the stricken dog.

Ingenious firefighters saved three-year-old Kiki by filling one of their kit bags with food and lowering it towards her.

The greedy pug fell for the ploy and hopped straight in before being whisked up back to the surface to her waiting family.

One fire engine and four crew attended the incident at 8pm on Tuesday evening to Kiki’s home in Rainham, Kent.

Crew Manager Graham Porter said: ‘When we arrived Kiki was quiet at the bottom of the well, and her owners had lowered a torch into the well so they could see her.

‘We were relieved when we heard her make some noise in response to her owner calling her name.

‘She stayed nice and still as she was pulled up in the bag, and at the top she jumped straight out and ran into the house before running around the garden.

‘It was definitely an interesting rescue and we’re really pleased we managed to reach Kiki safely.’

She even enjoyed a cuddle with the crew after, before being put in the shower to wash off the grime and dirt from her little adventure.

A firefighter spokesperson added: ‘Kiki couldn’t resist the snacks and as planned she climbed into the bag for a feast.

‘Two firefighters very carefully hauled the bag to the top of the well using ropes.

‘The crew expected her to have some nasty injuries, but to their surprise she bounced straight out of the bag and ran around the garden – seemingly injury free.’
