Grape expectations: how fashion got fruity

Fruits have taken over from florals as the print of choice this summer.

The refreshing pattern, made up of everything from lemons to melons, featured heavily in MSGM’s Resort 2019 collection. A dainty pineapple and watermelon motif also took centre stage at Alessandra Rich’s spring/summer 2019 runway show, while Gucci simply championed juicy strawberries.

It was influencer Aimee Song’s collection with Revolve, Song of Style, which really bought the trend to the mainstream, as her head-to-toe orange and banana print ensembles were splashed all over the ‘gram.

Here are three of the most stylish ways to get your five a day…

The Delicious Dress

Fruit Salad Cut Out Midi Dress £49 from Warehouse (Warehouse )

For an easy fix, invest in a statement dress adorned with all your fruit salad faves.

Instagrammable brand Kitri has gone for zesty shapes on a trendy deep blue square neckline midi dress (£125), which exudes all the vacay vibes. On the high street, Warehouse has created a city chic button-up design with a 70s-inspired neon tropical print (£49).

The Berry Versatile Trousers

Blaire Pant, £182 by Song of Style (Revolve)

Jazzy trousers are a summer staple and an easy way to get onboard with the bold print.

Gucci has created retro berry-covered white jeans (£980), which would make zingy addition to the denim section of your wardrobe. Song of Styles, though, has the most wearable design of the season: wide-leg, high-waisted satin pants (£182). Throw on over a bikini at the beach or dress up with a bodysuit and heels for a playful evening look.

The Sweet Shirt

Cyra Short Sleeve Shirt, £30 from Weekday (Weekday)

Bowling shirts are the unisex item to have this summer and with endless eye-catching prints at the ready, fruits are just another fun variable.

Taking home the prize for most unique exotic print, Weekday has everything from pitaya to figs emblazoned on a cute cropped shirt (£30). Simply throw on with a pair of mom jeans.

For the fellas, ASOS has introduced the print to its menswear section, creating an attention-grabbing multi-coloured motif (£25) which is already selling fast.

Let your fruit flag fly, people.
