Grammys host Alicia Keys just made 'metal mesh' 2020's most popular fabric (…trust us on this)

She was the hostess with the mostess at the 2020 Grammy Awards, and although she had approx. 600 outfit changes (including one v casual jeans and a t-shirt look towards the end of the night which, tbh, we vibe) it was Alicia Keys‘ first dress that totally stole the show.

The look was a heritage Atelier Versace asymmetric number with a thigh-high split and strong shoulder. It also featured heavy crystal embroidery at the neckline which fell into the loose draping as it cascaded into the dress’s metal mesh form.

Yup, you read that right. While it may look like a sequined extravaganza at first glance, the reflective silver material is in fact a tightly woven metal mesh fabric. A phrase we never thought we’d swoon at, until now.

While we’re yet to have confirmation as to the weight of the dress (we can’t be sure, but we’d imagine that a metal dress doesn’t carry lightly), we want one immediately.

We’re also predicting that, thanks to Alicia’s expert modelling, this year the material may well overtake sequin in the party girl’s ‘OUT out’ outfit of choice.

Predictably, it wasn’t just Alicia’s dress that had us swooning. Her hair, pulled back via tight cornrows into a slick bun, featured scattered gem stones throughout her edges, while her make-up look was typically low-key.

With nothing but a sweep of sheer glitter across her eyelids, she was every inch the unofficial spokesmodel for no make-up makeup.

Alicia Keys lead an on stage tribute to Kobe at the start of the Grammy Awards 2020 saying, “We’re standing here heartbroken in the house that Kobe Bryant built.” The presenter of the awards ceremony then went on to perform a devastating duet with Boys II Men as the emotional audience looked on. It was a text book example of presenting. We salute you Alicia!
