Graeme Souness believes Leicester City centre-back Jonny Evans would ‘walk into’ Manchester United’s defence.

The 31-year-old came through United’s academy and helped the club win three Premier League titles during Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign at OId Trafford.

Louis van Gaal gave the green light for United to sell Evans to West Brom in an £8 million deal in 2015.

But the Northern Ireland international has continued to impress in the Premier League and came close to joining Manchester City two years ago.

Evans has now formed a solid partnership alongside Caglar Soyuncu at Leicester City this season.

And Souness believes Evans’ former club have missed out.

‘Jonny Evans and [Caglar] Soyuncu will enjoy that midfield in front of them,’ Souness told Sky Sports.

‘He walks into the Manchester United team for me when you look at what United have at the back.

‘He can make passes, senses danger.

‘He’s all round a top class centre-half for me.’
