Google Stadia launch line-up is 12 games, including Red Dead Redemption 2

Lots of big name games, but no exclusives

When streaming service Google Stadia starts next week it’ll only have a dozen games, but they are good ones and more are promised soon after.

Google has been trying to make it clear for a while now that Stadia is not the Netflix of gaming. And now they’ve got the most obvious proof yet: when the service launches it’ll only have 12 games.

That’s much more in-line with a new console launch than it is some sort of library of gaming greats. Even though most of the launch titles are… great.

The majority are from last year but the headliner is probably Red Dead Redemption 2, with Mortal Kombat 11 being the most high profile 2019 title.

An additional 14 titles are planned for release before the end of the year, which includes a greater number of 2019 titles, including Borderlands 3, Football Manager 2020, Ghost Recon Breakpoint, and Metro Exodus.

When does Google Stadia launch in the UK?

Stadia is set to launch on Tuesday, 19 November but how much of a fuss Google will make about it at that point is unclear, given the potential for teething troubles once they switch everything on.

However, the only people that will be able to play next week are those that have bought the Stadia Founder’s Edition, which is sold out, or the most expensive Premiere Edition for £119.

A free service is planned for Stadia next year, but the initial subscription-based one will have access to higher streaming rates and one new free game a month, starting with Destiny 2.

Rather than renting the games you have to buy them on Stadia and while the individual prices haven’t been confirmed yet they’re expected to be more or less exactly the same as buying them elsewhere.
