Google Maps StreetView is a great tool offering users the opportunity to take a look at far-flung locations around the world. Every now and then, though, it seems to offer an alternative use. One such occurrence was uncovered by a Reddit user, who thinks Google could have opened the door to another dimension.
The moment was spotted in a neighbourhood in the United States, although the exact location has been withheld.
One Google Maps user was utilising the function to scroll along a busy main street when they were catapulted into another reality.
At first, the street looks pretty normal.
The user clicks they way along a road, passing a green BP petrol station to the left, and a blue US Postal Service box to the right.
There are cars on the road and lush, green trees lining the sidewalks.

When the camera turns, the far-off world can be seen at the end of a long tunnel, perhaps the opening to this secondary dimension.
That’s certainly what the Reddit users who have commented on the finding seem to think.
One commenter wrote: “Wow, you hit light speed there pretty quick.”
While another suggested: “ It’s an unfinished area of the Matrix.”
Similar glitches have been located all around the world by eagle-eyed viewers.
In Tokyo, another Reddit user was certain they had discovered a portal to another universe hidden in the ground.
The scene depicted a normal-looking street in the city, but there was a twist.
In the ground appeared to be a hole opening up, showing a distorted reflection of a city not unlike Tokyo.
Most likely, this was caused by an issue with the photographs used to create StreetView’s virtual world.
Google Maps works by attaching a camera to the top of a car, which drives around taking images of its surroundings and then stitching them together to create a three-dimensional world.
Every now and then, the technology glitches, often stitching the wrong photographs together to create some very odd settings.
