Google Maps Street View: Cameras capture the moment two men go under in sinking boat

Google Maps Street View emerged onto the internet in 2007, following in the footsteps of Google Maps in 2005. The 3D technology allows users to explore locations all around the globe to gain an insight into what different areas are like. Every now and then, though, the camera’s manage to pick up an unlikely incident that leaves viewers shocked.

While one, dressed in a white t-shirt, has his face hidden by a beige baseball cap, the expression on his friend’s face seems to suggest he isn’t too concerned about entering the surrounding waters.

The man, dressed in a grey T-shirt with sunglasses propped atop his head, seems to be looking directly ahead with little sign of fear displayed in his features.

As is often the case with Google Maps Street View, it’s likely this isn’t the actual situation, and instead, the result of a glitch.

“Google car does weird stuff on roads too, but it really does weird stuff on water.”

Another commenter pointed out: “Biggest problem is the way that, despite both being submerged up to their stomachs in water, neither has any signs of water above it, not even the slightest splash or soaked shirt.”

This whole event is most likely the cause of a glitch, something which happened rather frequently with the 3D technology.

The immersive images are created by taking several images of the surroundings at once and then stitching them together to create the three-dimensional effect.

However, sometimes this glitches and stitches incorrect frames together, which is what is likely to have happened in this image.

It’s a relief for the two men, who hopefully had a more fortunate fate than the one Google Maps dealt them in this alternative scenario.
