Good Omens: What happened to the third baby in the Antichrist swap?

Amazon Prime dropped its adaptation of Good Omens earlier this year to critical acclaim. The series was a rip-roaring success around the world with many fans hopeful for a second outing. While many have binged through all six episodes, others have questions about the first run.

What happened to the third baby in the anti-christ swap?

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Good Omens

Season one started with a baby swap orchestrated by Hell with demon Crowley (played by David Tennant) delivering up the Antichrist.

However, on the night the Antichrist was brought to the Tadfield Hospital run by demonic nuns, there was a mix-up caused by the arrival of the Youngs.

Arthur Young (Daniel Mays) and his wife Deirdre (Sian Brooke) unexpectedly turned up to the hospital after she went into labour.

Also at the hospital was Harriet Dowling (Jill Winternitz), who was going into labour while her husband and US ambassador Thaddeus Dowling (Nick Offerman) was present via Skype.

The Antichrist was supposed to be swapped with Harriet’s baby, meaning the child would constantly be protected thanks to his father’s status.

Harriet and Thaddeus named their child Warlock (Samson Marraccino), while the Youngs called their son Adam (Sam Taylor Buck).

However, through a series of errors, the Antichrist ended up with the Youngs instead.

Crowley and angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) only realised what had happened when the Hell Hound, which was supposed to arrive on Earth, didn’t show up with Warlock.

The demon and angel teamed up and eventually located the real Antichrist as they tried to avert the apocalypse.

The US ambassador and his wife ended up with the Youngs’ child while they, in turn, raised the Antichrist.

But what happened to the third baby, who was whisked away in the madness of the swap?

In the TV series, the voice of God (Frances McDormand) hints a terrible fate befalls this third infant.

Sadly, audiences never find out what exactly happens to this surplus child.

Readers of the 1990 Good Omens novel have also been asking the same question on Reddit.

One user called atlikesfoodyayaya explained the fate of the third child, posing on the forum: “Diplomats Baby is given to adoption (it is suggested in the book that this baby may have grown up to become Greasy Johnson, leader of the rival gang to “the Them”.”

In the novel, Greasy Johnson’s gang rivals Adam’s own group of friends as they battle it out.

The rivalry reflects the fight between Heaven and Hell, suggesting the war was futile and childish.
