Good Omens is Amazon Prime’s adaptation of the classic Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett book, episodes of which will be released later today (Friday, May 31). The Amazon series may be released as a multi-episode drama but according to the producer of Good Omens it was made as a “six-hour movie”. Amazon Prime will release all episodes of Good Omens at once.
How many episodes are in Good Omens?
Good Omens on Amazon Prime will have six episodes, the titles of which are:
- Episode 1: In the Beginning
- Episode 2: The Book
- Episode 3: Hard Times
- Episode 4: Saturday Morning Funtime
- Episode 5: The Doomsday Option
- Episode 6: The Very Last Day of the Rest of Their Lives
Though the series is presented on Amazon as a six-part TV series, it was originally conceived as a film.
Producer Rob Wilkins told Express.co.uk exclusively: “We filmed it as a six-hour movie.
“So if people are going to binge watch it on Friday evening, I would really love that!”
Wilkins compared the experience of watching all episodes of Good Omens at once to that of seeing Avengers: Endgame.
He said: “People were moaning and groaning and saying, ‘Endgame was a bit too long’ and you think, ‘no, no, it could’ve done another hour at least!’
“And here we with six hours of Good Omens, I think that’s fantastic.”
Although Good Omen was originally thought of as a film, according to Good Omens author and showrunner Neil Gaiman, he was persuaded by Brazil and Time Bandits director Terry Gilliam to turn it into a TV series.
Gaiman told Express.co.uk: “I had lunch with Terry Gilliam and he said, ‘you know Neil, in this world that we’re entering into we should do Good Omens for TV.”
Wilkins said of making Good Omens episodes for TV: “This is the only time in the history of the universe that TV could have happened at this level and we could’ve written and produced such an amazing adaptation.”
What will happen in Good Omens?
The official synopsis for Good Omens reads: “The End of the World is coming.
“A fussy Angel (played by Michael Sheen) and a loose-living Demon (David Tennant) who’ve become overly fond of life on Earth are forced to form an unlikely alliance to stop Armageddon.
“But they have lost the Antichrist, an 11-year-old boy unaware he’s meant to bring upon the end of days, forcing them to embark on an adventure to find him and save the world before it’s too late.”
This epic story is told across the six episodes with an all-star cast that includes not just Sheen and Tennant but also Jon Hamm, Jack Whitehall, Miranda Richardson and the voice of Frances McDormand.
