Legendary Hollywood actress Jane Powell has died at the age of 92.

Susan Granger, a friend of Powell’s and a spokesperson for the family, confirmed to various outlets that the actress died peacefully at her home in Wilton, Connecticut, on Thursday.

The actress died of natural causes at the home she shared for many years with her husband, actor and publicist Dickie Moore, who died in 2015.

Known as one of the last surviving stars of the Golden Age of Hollywood, Powell started out in entertainment as a child singer, selling Victory Bonds during World War II.

Her first feature film appearance was in Song of the Open Road in 1944, and she quickly secured her reputation as a star of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer musicals.

Powell went on to star in musicals like  A Date with Judy (1948), Royal Wedding (1951), Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1954), and Hit the Deck (1955).

She was also an accomplished theatre actor, beginning her stage career in the 1960s.

Powell starred in high-profile productions such as The Sound of Music and My Fair Lady and also appeared in television, including in the sitcom Growing Pains in the 1980s and 90s.

By the turn of the millennium, Powell was back performing on stage, including in Stephen Sondheim’s musical Bounce.

Powell was married five times, wedding her longtime companion Moore in 1988.

Tributes have poured in for the late star, with one fan writing: ‘What a devastating loss. I can’t name one Old Hollywood fan who doesn’t adore Jane Powell and everything she brought to the silver screen. Musicals won’t be the same without her, and neither will any of us who have admired her films and beautiful voice.’

‘Oh, what sad news. Farewell to the utterly charming Jane Powell,’ another said.

One more wrote: ‘I just saw that the radiantly beautiful and uncommonly talented Jane Powell has died at the age of 92. This one hurts – she was like human sunshine. Rest In Peace, lovely lady, and thank you for all the joy you’ve given us.’
