IN the episode called ‘Her Husband’, the plot thickened on Gold Digger this week (December 4, 2019).
We started to find out more about Julia’s ex-husband Patrick, leaving lots of unanswered questions…
Four unanswered questions from episode four of Gold Digger
1) Did Patrick try to kill Julia and then himself?
Throughout the series so far we have seen snippets of a violent past that Julia was involved in.
Over the last few episodes it has become clear that she was the victim of domestic abuse – and more than likely at the hands of her ex-husband Patrick.
In episode four we got to know Patrick more and it became clear he has demons.
Over the series we have seen flashbacks to one particular night where Julia is beaten to a pulp and left for dead and in this episode we saw Patrick having a flashback where he had tried to kill himself – did he do this after nearly killing his wife Julia?
It also becomes clear he is an alcoholic as he is seen looking in a fridge full of beer and he wants to take one but doesn’t.
Did he used to beat Julia during his days of having a drinking problem?
Patrick also pours himself a glass of water instead of Champagne, when he opens a bottle of fizz for his wife.
The couple later have an argument and we see Patrick wake up in a drunken stupor and then hide all the bottles of alcohol so that no one finds out.
2) Why does Patrick’s mum hate him so much?
This could be because of his drinking and the fact he used to beat his wife.
His mother has a big disdain for her son which becomes even more apparent when she tells him on Christmas Day that she will spending the day with Julia.
She seems to have a real hate for her son – the fact she would rather spend Christmas with his ex wife than with him.
His mother must know all about his past and hasn’t forgiven him for it.
3) What will Benjamin say when he finds out Julia wants a pre-nup?
At the end of the episode we saw Julia start filling in a pre-nup application after announcing her engagement to her toyboy lover Benjamin.
We see her looking pained as she does it, but after pressure from her family, who think Benjamin is a gold digger, it appears she has relented and decide it is a good idea.
But what will her young love have to say about it when he finds out?
4) Is Benjamin up to something or is he genuine?
We still haven’t got to the bottom about what Benjamin is hiding – if anything.
He is very secretive and quite a suspicious character – but so far we don’t have any hard evidence to prove he really is a “gold digger”.
In a sneak peek to next week’s show we see Benjamin’s brother turn up at Julia’s house.
If you remember Benjamin told Julia he has no immediate family.
Will we finally find out what he is hiding?
