Gogglebox 2019: ‘Avert my eyes’ Viewers in TURMOIL as show airs Game Of Thrones spoiler

WARNING: The following article contains spoilers Game of Thrones season eight, episode three.

Gogglebox returned this evening, with one of the highlight’s of the Channel 4 show being the moment the cast members reacted to the latest episode of Game of Thrones.

The scene the Goggleboxers reviewed was when the Night King (played by Vladimír Furdík) came face-to-face with Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead-Wight) after one of the longest battles in television history played out on the HBO series.

Just when it seemed the Night King was about to kill Bran, it was Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) who stole the scene by murdering the villain, the most shocking moment of the entire saga as many believed it would be Jon Snow (Kit Harrington) who would destroy the Night King.

With the scene unfolding on Gogglebox, some viewers found themselves having to avoid any spoilers as they still hadn’t watched the episode which was first broadcast earlier this week.

As Jenny and Lee became engrossed in the dramatic scene, fans of both shows took to Twitter to voice their discern at the scene being played out.

One viewer posted: “Just had to mute #Gogglebox and avert my eyes – I still haven’t started the new series of GoT!”

Another added: “That desperate to have no spoilers for #GameofThrones that I’ve left the room when it comes on #Gogglebox.”

A third exclaimed: “Ok time to avert my eyes now! Haven’t watched GOT yet #Gogglebox,” wanting to avoid seeing the conclusion of the scene.

“Just heard GoT theme whilst watching #gogglebox & shot out the room. NO SPOILERS!” a fourth opined.

However, one fan was happy they’d managed to catch up on season eight episode three, tweeting: “Thank god I literally caught up with #gameofthrones two hours ago before watching #gogglebox #spoilers.”

Tonight’s episode also saw the return of Jenny and Lee, who were absent from last week’s programme, throwing fans into turmoil once more.

Taking to Twitter to address the popular couple’s break from the show, Gogglebox creator Tania Alexander told her 8,774 followers: “Oi! Oi! Gogglers #gogglebox is almost finished ready for you lovely lot at 9pm #maryandgiles are back,” referring to the fact Giles and Mary were missing the week before.

“@leegogglebox are on hols this week but back on your tellies next. So don’t panic. Plenty of [smiles] tonight. Big love from me and the gogglegang @Vic_Ray,” the post concluded.

Commenting on their return tonight, fans flocked to social media, with one writing on Twitter: “Jenny and Lee are making up for not being on last week cause they’re on fire tonight #Gogglebox.”

A second opined: “#Gogglebox yes! Ooh it is good to see Lee and Jenny back this week @leegogglebox.”

Prior to the episode airing tonight, Jenny and Lee took to Twitter to inform viewers of their return, posting: “It’s Friday night now we will see you all later and that’s a promise happy Friday have a great bank holiday #Gogglebox @Channel4 xx.”

In an episode last month, Goggleboxers Sophie and Peter were seen discussing the brothers upcoming night out.

Telling his sister what costume he had in mind, Peter remarked: “You’ll never guess what I’m doing at the weekend… I’m going to a pub crawl… it’s fancy dress. The lads are going dressed up as girls, so I thought hang on a minute, why don’t I go dressed as Kylie?

“I’ve got the a*** so I thought, why not?” Peter continued, before donning the costume to show his sister.

Entering the room in tight denim hot pants, Sophie burst into hysterics, as Peter opined: “Look at the a*** on these honestly. I can’t wear them out can I?”

Gogglebox continues Friday at 9pm on Channel 4. Game of Thrones continues Sunday on HBO in the USA and the following day on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV in the UK.
