GMB's Susanna Reid could get female co-host if fans gel with Piers replacement

ITV’s Good Morning Britain could undergo a major change with the current presenting layout, as reports suggest that the morning programme could possibly be hosted by two female presenters on a permanent basis.

Since outspoken presenter Piers Morgan cut ties with the show in March, the programme has had a variety of hosts step into the hot seat.

Current host Susanna Reid joined the ITV morning programme when it first launched in 2014, and Piers became a member of the team a year later.

Journalist Piers helped to boost the programme’s ratings which had been neck and neck with BBC’s morning programme throughout the years.

But since Piers stepped down after his controversial take on Meghan Markle’s mental health claims, the show’s ratings have severely plummeted.

Since March, Good Morning Britain has had a variety of replacement hosts following Piers’ departure.

Some of the presenters that have stepped up to the challenge have been Richard Madeley, Adil Ray and weatherman Alex Beresford.

But now programme bosses could be set to take a very different approach regarding their presenting structure as reports claim they could introduce a double female hosting act going forward.

Talking to The Sun on the matter, a GMB source said: “It is very possible that we will have two women fronting the show.

“Susanna will take the lead, but the job of her co-host is up for grabs, and it will come down to who is most popular with viewers.

“Richard and Charlotte both gave powerhouse performances last week, so we will be seeing a lot more of them in the coming weeks. But Ranvir and Kate will be back too, as will Alastair Campbell and Bill Turnbull.

“The attitude behind the scenes is there is no rush to find a replacement for Piers this year. The bosses want to make the right choice. They want to give lots of people a chance and, as time goes on, focus more on the most popular hosts.”

After ITV aired Meghan Markle’s explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey, 56-year-old Piers dramatically stormed off the GMB set after a heated and controversial discussion with weatherman Alex about racism in the Royal Family.

In the interview with Oprah, Meghan bravely expressed that she was feeling suicidal.

However, the next day on Good Morning Britain, Piers said he didn’t believe her claims and slammed her remarks live on air.

As a result, Piers’ attitude didn’t sit well with viewers at home which led thousands of them to make an official complaint to the communications regulator, Ofcom.
