Good Morning Britain’ s Piers Morgan made an awkward blunder this morning.
The presenter returned to the show today following a short break.
Piers, 54, was on presenting duty alongside co-star Susanna Reid.
The pair welcomed guests British-Jamaican singer Ruby Turner and American singer-songwriter Sheila Ferguson to discuss singer John Legend’s decision to change the lyrics to Christmas hit Baby It’s Cold Outside.
All Of Me hitmaker John has re-recorded the 1940s Christmas classic with American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson with what he calls “newfound sensitivity” for the MeToo era.
Some of the lyrics changed include ‘the neighbours might think’ to ‘what will may friends think’ and ‘no cabs to be had out there’ to ‘it’s your body and your choice’.
When introducing R&B and soul singer Ruby, Piers mistakenly called her Ruby Murray instead of Ruby Turner.
Ruby Murray is classic Cockney Rhyming Slang for curry.
The host was left red-faced when Ruby corrected him and Piers quickly apologised.
Susanna explained: “John Legend has rerecorded the controversial lyrics because they think it’s not appropriate.
‘What is wrong with these people?’ Piers asked.
“John Legend, you virtue singling horror story and that dreadful wife of his, what’s her name? Chrissy Teigen.
“They’ve sat there plotting how to ruin a great Dean Martin classic just in time for Christmas.”
‘How do you know Chrissy Teigen had anything to do with it?’ Susanna rightly pointed out.
Singer Ruby was in favour of John’s revamped version of Baby It’s Cold Outside while former I’m A Celeb star Sheila didn’t think there was any need to change the lyrics.
Good Morning Britain continues on ITV tomorrow morning at 6.30am
