GMB's Piers Morgan apologises after suffering 'mortifying' mistaken identity gaffe


Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan has apologised after suffering an embarrassing blunder while at the Oscars in LA.

Piers, 54, has revealed his experience of mistaken identity with the star calling his blunder “mortifying”.

He was at the Charles Finch and Chanel pre-Oscars dinner at the Polo Lounge a night before the prestigious awards ceremony, when he spoke to an actor who he thought was Friends star David Schwimmer.

Piers recalled the cringeworthy blunder in The Mail on Sunday’s Event column.

He explained he was excited to chat to him about the rumoured Friends reunion.

The television presenter said he told the actor: “‘Congrats!’ I exclaimed, shaking his hand. ‘Thank you,’ he replied, looking puzzled.

“‘What an amazing deal… have you worked out how much it is per second yet?’

“‘Erm, no, he half-smiled with an even more bemused expression.”

Piers continues saying he was convinced it was David Schwimmer, finishing his conversation with the actor: “”‘Well good luck with it – the whole world’s going to explode when you guys get back together.”

“‘Right. Thanks.’ Now he just looked completely mystified.”

Piers was them told the cringeworthy news by his wife Celia Walden who said: “That’s not David Schwimmer!”

Piers took to Instagram to reveal his embarrassing blunder

The TV personality was told it was in fact American Horror Story actor Dylan McDermott who he thought was David.

Piers took to Instagram to share snap of an article about his mishap with the caption: “Mortifying…. I can only apologise” tagging Dylan McDermott in his apology.

Morgan made headlines this morning after he was absent from Good Morning Britain.

Fans were baffled when the presenter was mysteriously missing, as the star was still in LA after the Oscars.

One said: “When are you back on GMB?? Not worth tuning in otherwise!”

While viewer another wrote: “Piers Morgan missing you on GMB.”

“Up early to watch GMB. Where are you? Switched off gone back to bed” said another Piers fan, tagging the host in their tweet.

A forth GMB fan added: “Oh look no Piers Morgan on Good Morning Britain this morning…I wonder why!”
