GMB's Dr Hilary Jones breaks silence on relationship with Piers Morgan after ITV exit

Medical expert Dr Hilary Jones spoke about his friendship with Piers Morgan following his exit from ITV’s Good Morning Britain.

Well-known for his daily appearances on Good Morning Britain and Lorraine, the GP opened up about their continued friendship since Piers left the show.

The medical expert told The Sun: “He and I have become good mates, and we’re able to exchange messages now and again, we kept in touch and sent greetings cards over Christmas.”

“No doubt the man who gave me my first job in journalism many many years ago will stay good mates with me.”

Dr Hilary saw Piers leave the show after his explosion regarding the criticism he received over his coverage of Oprah Winfrey’s interview with Meghan Markle.

Elsewhere this week, the healthcare professional has called upon Brits to lose weight for health benefits.

He acknowledged the impact the Covid-19 pandemic has had on the British public, resulting in prolonged stints indoors and less interaction with others.

He said: “It’s what we call the indirect harm of the pandemic, so people have sort of locked themselves in their four walls at home, they’re eating for comfort, they’re eating because they’re bored, they’re taking less physical activity.”

“It has been an indirect harm, and now we need to reverse that.”

“It’s never too late to reverse these things. We’ve had the longest night, the darkest hours, now the days are getting longer.”

“Every day we have an opportunity to take a bit of exercise, whatever it is, to think about what we eat, about the portion sizes that we’re consuming and what we’re eating, and we need to reverse the indirect harms caused by the pandemic. There’s no reason we can’t do that.”

Hilary’s friend Piers has recently claimed that he was ‘censored’ on Good Morning Britain when he was told to apologise to Meghan Markle after the outburst that resulted his exit.

Piers quit the show last March and refused to say sorry to Meghan Markle, who he called ‘Princess Pinnochio’ due to his disbelief of Meghan’s admittance to having suicidal thoughts.

After he made the damning statement, thousands of complaints flooded in condemning Piers for his harsh words and he subsequently quit the show.

Piers’ new column Uncensored ‘does what it says on the tin’ and the presenter claims he will use the platform to publish whatever he thinks or feels like.

He said: “Effectively, I was censored at my previous job and told to apologise to Meghan Markle for an honestly held opinion, which obviously I wasn’t going to do.”

“It was a pretty bruising experience on Good Morning Britain but I’m now working somewhere where I’m free to express my opinions.”
