GMB presenter Susanna Reid in self-isolation for two weeks

Piers Morgan ‘s co-host Susanna Reid will not be on our screens for the next two weeks as she declares herself in self-isolation.

Susanna has decided to self-isolate with the rest of her family after her son began displaying symptoms of coronavirus.

The mum-of-three made a short appearance on her show this morning via a video link, where she voiced her opinion on the matter to Piers and Charlotte Hawkins who was standing in for her.

At the beginning of today’s Good Morning Britain, Susanna explained that she herself hasn’t shown symptoms of the virus and she would have been in work but after the government advice yesterday, she had a change of heart.

Susanna also hit out at the lack of government testing for coronavirus and that she urged that a government official come on the show to clear up some uncertainties surround coronavirus and self-isolation.

Opening the programme, Piers greeted his viewers saying: “Rather an unusual line-up. Susanna is not with us, she is self-isolating for 14 days.”

But the pair decided to make some light of the situation, he joked: “I’ve heard of some ways of avoiding working with me but this is ridiculous!” She laughed: “After all these years I’m in self-isolation from you Piers!”

Explaining the reason behind her self-isolating, she said: “One of the boys has a cough, persistent cough, and that came on yesterday.

“Before the briefing yesterday, the person themselves had to be confined by themselves.”

However, she said that after the government’s announcement she decided to take action and as she is part of a family that is separated she said that both households would be doing the same.

This meant that she couldn’t go into work at Good Morning Britain and her children, who are in their teens, wouldn’t be able to attend school.

But Susanna expressed that she felt very lucky because she would still be paid when she is off work ill – unlike many of those on zero hour contracts or freelancing.

Susanna revealed last night on social media that she wouldn’t be on our screens this morning, she wrote: “I am currently well but due to the new advice today I will be self-isolating for two weeks due to symptoms in my household. Stay well everyone.”

And many celebs responded with well wishes.

Davina McCall said: “Love to you all.”

Gary Lineker wrote: “Stay well.

And Katie Hopkins noticed the tweet and posted: “Susanna Reid will not be on @GMB for the rest of this week as she has – understandably – felt the need to quarantine herself from the public bad that is Fatboy #piersmorgan.”
