Glossier Skywash Eyeshadow, £15
THE HYPE:
Glossier are the ultimate hype masters. Since news broke of the brand trademarking the name “Skywash” over 8 months ago, speculation has steadily built as to what it could be(?!). There’s a whole reddit thread dedicated to conjecture. “I bet Skywash has a travel theme. In fact, I’m willing to bet that it is a face wash that you can use without water,” said one user. “Highlight in Cloud Paint-style packaging? I would be super into that,” guessed another. “The ‘sky’ part makes me wonder if it could be that bronzer everyone wants, but under a sneaky name so it stays a ‘surprise’,” came another. But the grand prize goes to the user who reckoned it could be a “matte versions of the lidstars?” because, ding, ding, ding, the wait is over and, well, that’s pretty much exactly right.

BEAUTY BIO:
Having hitched my wagon to bronzey eyeshadows, I’ve hit the point where – a decade in – I’m bored of wearing the same shade every day. My job encourages experimentation and I’m lucky enough to have access to endless options, but I don’t tap into this as much as I should. No more. Hit me up with the rainbow hues.
THE REVIEW:
First off, I love the look of the Skywash shadows – sleek, minimalistic but with a pop of fun, it feels very Glossier. The seven curated shades that make up this collection were all inspired by David Hockey paintings and South-Western American landscapes. Think Arizona deserts with terracotta sand, lush pops of cactus, long, open sun-beaten roads. And, you’re there. Lawn is a fresh green, Pool is a cornflower blue, Pebble is a neutral taupe, Valley is a warm peach, Terra is a burnt sienna, Echo is a a cocoa brown and Palm is a golden beige. The matte texture meanwhile, references unglazed pottery (particularly effective when offset by soft, sheeny skin).

Honestly, I was impressed. It hadn’t occurred to me before that all of Glossier’s eyeshadow shades (outside of Glossier Play), were shimmers. The matte finish of these work to feel more relaxed, even when you’re going bolder with the colour. Of course, I love the tan options, Pebble, Valley, Terra and Palm. But I was surprised at how drawn I was to the bright blue and green. I wore the blue shadow solo on my lids for a day, I created a green liner the next (more wearable than you’d think) and then I upped the ante with a full-on rainbow eye – a bit much for a trip to the shops, but the office loved it. The doe foot wand makes application breezy and you can pare the colour back by applying one sheer swipe and blending it out or you can build it up, your call.
THE VERDICT:
The intention here is to encourage playfulness – and make it wearable. Whether you want to stick to something more neutral, introduce a hint of colour or go full fluro, there are options for all. I’m already obsessed.
