Glastonbury secret sets: Who could play a surprise set at Glastonbury 2019?

Glastonbury is the mother of all British music festivals and attracts hundreds of thousands of revellers every year. The five-day event is held on Worthy Farm, Glastonbury and attracts top music acts from across the globe. This year Stormzy, The Killers and The Cure will all headline, but there could be some surprise appearances too.

The festival has 13 main stages with a host of smaller ones to boot.

There’s massive speculation around who might make surprise appearances at this year’s festival.

Who could play a surprise set at Glastonbury 2019?

Since Glastonbury first began in 1970 the festival has drawn some of the world’s biggest music stars.

From Rock and Roll to Pop, Dance and Country, no music taste goes uncatered for.

While Glastonbury boss Emily Eavis has quashed claims that Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga might make a surprise appearance, fans of their film, A Star is Born, are seriously keen for it to happen.

Bradley took to the Pyramid Stage as his character Jackson Maine in 2017 to shoot a performance scene for the film.

Fans were sent into a frenzy after BBC radio DJ Edith Bowman appeared to hint the secret set could happen while speaking on Sunday Brunch at the weekend.

Asked if she had any inside info on any secret Glasto gigs, Ms Bowman said: “Well… I may know one, I can’t possibly say.

“On my podcast [Soundtracking] I had Bradley Cooper, talking about A Star Is Born. And when I spoke to him I was like, ‘I just wanna see you guys do a gig, play it live’. And he was like, ‘Jackson’s dead!’

“He said, ‘Well we have been talking to Nick [Dewey, Glastonbury booker] and Emily [Eavis, co-organiser] about it – we’d do The Park Stage’.”

But Ms Bowman has since tweeted to deny the set is happening, she tweeted: “Before this one gets out of control the answer is no, that isn’t happening.”

The Spice Girls are another band fans would love to see make a shock Glasto appearance.

Bookmakers have slashed the odds on a secret Spice Girl set following the group’s recent London shows.

Over the last 24 hours, bookies have halved the odds on the iconic quartet playing Worthy Farm.

Whereas they were previously on 20/1, they have now been cut right down to 10/1.

Ladbrokes spokesperson Alex Apati said: “There’ll be plenty of fans who really really want the Spice Girls at Worthy Farm and we reckon they might just get their wish this year.”

There is one big reason why a performance is quite unlikely – Melanie C is scheduled to be on the other side of the world.

This would make a Glastonbury appearance quite the slog – but not impossible.

Foals are also rumoured to appear on The Park Stage on Saturday, but this hasn’t been confirmed.
