The Glasgow Distillery Company today launches the latest in its range of spirits – a spiced rum.
Banditti Club Glasgow Spiced Rum takes its name from a band of drinkers who would meet in public houses in the late 18th and early 19 century to sing, eat and play music late into the night. Rum punch was a popular drink at the time.
Rum distilled from sugar cane juice on the island of Madeira is aged in Glasgow for up to 12 months in oak casks, then spiced with a selection of fresh tropical fruit and exotic spices, including pineapple, orange, cacao and allspice.
The distillers say the 44% ABV drink has a “n atural sweetness and warm spice on the nose, Banditti Club opens up to toasted pineapple and orange on the palate with notes of clove and anise that lead to a long spicy finish. The result is a wonderfully smooth and rich spiced rum of exceptional quality, balance and distinction”.
They recommend it be mixed with ginger beer or cola, over ice and garnished with a generous wedge of fresh lime.
