GLAMOUR columnist, Nikki Wolff, says monochromatic makeup is the biggest beauty trend for summer, here's how to get the look

For this month’s column, I wanted to focus on monochromatic makeup which is where you match the shade on your eyes, cheeks and lips. Not only is monochromatic makeup really easy to do and great for those who prefer to have a lighter makeup bag by using multi-tasking products, it also looks effortlessly cool and simple. My celebrity clients love it, particularly Rosie Huntington-Whiteley who loves to add a little of her blush to her lids to complete her look.

Read on for my top tips on how to wear the trend, my favourite products to create the look, and say goodbye to focusing on either your eyeshadow or your lipstick

How to do it

There are no rules when it comes to monochromatic makeup, and you don’t necessarily have to use the exact same product, but generally you should keep everything within the same tones whether it’s terracottas, nudes, pinks or tans.

If you do want to wear your usual smoky eye or keep it clean with just a feline flick, bring your bronzer from the cheekbones through to the eye socket and diffuse outwards softly. I love this trick to tie the whole look together – it makes such a big difference to your finished look.

The products

Here are some of my all-time favourites and some new products that I’ve recently discovered and added to my kit.

ILIA Color Haze Multi-Matte Pigment in Waking Up, £30

The perfect makeup bag addition for any clean beauty lovers, this creamy formula is light, buildable and dries to a natural matte finish. It comes with a handy metal applicator for more precision and control and I love this peachy, warm nude shade that is suitable for all skin tones.

Westman Atelier Baby Cheeks Blush Stick in Petal, £46

This creamy stick blush has a dusty-rose finish that looks incredible on the cheeks, eyes and lips. For anyone who might be apprehensive about wearing pink on the eyes, this is the perfect choice as it’s not too bright but gives a healthy flush to the face and gives the illusion of brighter eyes. Plus, it’s really buildable so just a sweep across the lids is enough to add some colour and definition.

Chanel Soleil Tan de Chanel, £40

I love using bronzers to tie in the whole look, and this super creamy and blendable one from Chanel has a natural-looking matte shade that gives an incredibly flawless finish. I also use this as an eyeshadow base or just swept over the lids for a sun kissed look.

Nudestix Nudies Bloom in Tiger Lily Queen, £30

I love this shade for darker or olive skin tones. The bright coral makes skin look super fresh, healthy and happy, and its dewy, sheer formula means you can build up to your preferred intensity. It’s also a waterproof formula and one of my favourites for creating a glossy skin finish.

Marc Jacobs O!Mega Perfect Tan Bronzer, £35

This universally flattering and fine-milled powder has a radiant-matte finish that’s suitable for most skin types and I use this to add depth to the lids as well as defining cheekbones.

Surratt Lid Lacquer in Hadaka, £34

This beautiful peach lid lacquer doubles up as a shimmering eyeshadow and a highlighter (this one looks great on tanned or darker skin, but if you have fairer skin try the shade ‘Kira Kira’ instead). Eye glosses normally have a bad reputation for sticky formulas, but this dewy formula doesn’t make a mess and is really easy to use. Dab on to the centre of lids and across the cheekbones with your fingers for a sheer glow.

Giorgio Armani Neo Nude A-Blush in 30, £31

For anyone that prefers a ‘no makeup makeup’ look, this liquid blush is the perfect addition for your makeup bag. It has a super sheer finish that gives a healthy, natural wash of colour for that ‘your-skin-but-better’ kind of finish. Use the handy applicator and dab onto the cheeks and blend out with fingertips, and to really lift the face, sweep a small amount onto the lids. Finally, tie it all together by using it as a lip stain.
